No more COVID-19 patients at the Edmundston Hospital

There are no more patients infected with COVID-19 at the Edmundston regional hospital as of Friday. Outpatient services and surgeries are expected to resume gradually over the next few days.

On April 7, 13 COVID patients were hospitalized in Edmundston and eight of the nine available intensive care beds were occupied.

Vitalité Health Network feared the worst at the time and had made the decision to transfer a first patient to another hospital in order to free up resources.

Three weeks later, the Edmundston hospital can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Both the COVID unit and the intensive care unit are not treating any patients with the disease.

Nine respirators are therefore available for those who need them.

The Vitalité network stresses that outpatient services and elective surgeries which had been temporarily reduced in recent weeks will be able to resume gradually in the days to come.

Visits are still prohibited for visitors at this time, but designated support persons can now accompany their loved ones.

We note in the press release issued on Friday that the situation can change quickly.

The Edmundston Regional Hospital is the only hospital in the Northwest that is equipped to treat patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
