No more Corona cases in Barbados – flights will be available again soon 06/27/20

BRIDGETOWN (dpa-AFX) – Barbados has officially no new coronavirus cases and wants to allow commercial flights again from July 12. In addition, all exit restrictions will be lifted as of next Wednesday, as the Prime Minister of the Caribbean island state, Mia Mottley, announced on Friday. “We have to start making tough but cautious decisions,” she said, stressing that tourism is by far the most important source of income for Barbados.

People would also only have to keep a distance of one meter from each other, it said. According to Justice Minister Dale Marshall, spectators will again be allowed to participate in sporting events. Up to 500 people are likely to take part in other entertainment events.

Barbados, an island of just under 300,000 people, has recorded 97 Sars-Cov-2 infections and seven deaths from Covid-19 disease, according to Johns Hopkins University. There have been no new, locally transmitted infections for 35 days, Health Minister Jeffrey Bostic said.

Other countries in the Caribbean have recently announced easing of their anti-corona measures. The Bahamas want to welcome visitors from all over the world again starting next Wednesday. As in Barbados, a current, negative coronavirus test is required. Travel to Jamaica has been possible since June 15th / nk / DP / zb
