This is the beginning of the end of an era. Starting next week, Apple will finish adding the iconic “bitten apple” sticker to some of its devices.
Yesterday, the new version of Apple iPad Air 10.9 and the brand new iPad Air 13 premiered. We also saw the new version of Apple iPad Pro 11 and 12.9. Additionally, Apple showed an updated Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro. These are not the only new features – Apple Final Cut 2 and Logic 2 turned out to be the icing on the cake.
When the dust after the premiere settled, 9to5Mac learned more interesting news. We managed to obtain a note that Apple sends to its chain of stores. It turns out that from next week, when new, premiere devices are shipped, their boxes will no longer contain stickers with the company logo. How to live? What to stick on Golf 4 and BMW E36 now?
Apple is done with stickers
I admit that I have a lot of these stickers. I finished counting at 30 pieces. I’ve never glued one on. However, I have a habit of taking this sticker out of the box when I sell my old equipment or give it away. This way, over the years, I have acquired quite a collection. I know people who stick them on 20-year-old items whose condition and market price are lower than the price of a used iPhone. It’s probably some kind of manifesto of will or status of independence. For me personally, this sticker might not be there, it’s a nice gesture and it probably made many people feel like they had a premium product. Today, however, it is completely unnecessary.
Apple finally decided the same. The reason for the lack of stickers in the sets with new iPads is quite simple. This is dictated by ecological reasons. Apple strives to provide packaging free of plastic and from fully recycled materials. As you might guess, the plastic foil sticker contradicts this.
However, this is not the final end of the iconic sticker. It will still be available in Apple stores upon request. We do not know whether this will apply only to the official Apple Store or to resellers and partners operating in our country. However, we know that if there are no stickers, the store staff will ask for more stickers.
Although it is not entirely certain, it seems that the same fate awaits all Apple devices, including the MacBook and iPhone series.
