No money for the parish: bold comparison with FIFA

During a discussion in the city council, the mayor of Vilshofen, Florian Gams (SPD), made a bold comparison between the wealth of the church and that of the world football association FIFA. The question was whether the city should financially support construction work in the parishes. The reason: The church is increasingly withdrawing from financing parish churches. Branch churches and chapels are not subsidized anyway.

City councilor Erika Schwitulla, also an SPD, refused any financial commitment from the city. That is the problem of the church. The Catholic Church in Germany alone has a fortune of 200 billion euros. Then Gams: It is not always possible to turn assets – such as buildings – into money. It is known that FIFA and the DFB are also very rich. The local football club could not benefit from this either. − hr
