JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions ( KSPI) Said Iqbal said, if there is no increase minimum wage in 2021, actions laborer will enlarge and strengthen.
Moreover, this happened amidst rejection all the law Work Creation Law.
According to Said, the workers might end up making a decision on a national strike. This is because the issue of wages is a problem at the company or factory level.
“It is different from October 6-8, which used the basis of the demonstration. This national strike will be even more devastating, ”said Said Iqbal in a written statement, Friday (30/10/2020).

Said said that workers and companies could propose wage increase negotiations which would be held simultaneously in each company.
However, if it ends deadlock or deadlock, workers have already met the requirements set out in Law No. 13 of 2003 on Employment to strike.
“Stop production simultaneously throughout Indonesia. That can be in Law No. 13 of 2003, “said Said Iqbal.
“The Minister of Manpower is the person most responsible for a national strike,” he said.
Said suspects that the Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziah lied about the agreement with the national wage council.
He received a report from members of the national wage council from elements of the labor union that there is no agreement whatsoever regarding the minimum wage in 2021.
“So what basis is the government using to issue a circular asking the governor not to raise the minimum wage?” said Said Iqbal.
“It is reasonable to suspect that the Minister of Manpower lied against the arguments in the issuance of the circular,” he said.
Furthermore, he said, a number of labor elements rejected the Menaker circular. He asked the governor to ignore the circular.
The argument, according to Said Iqbal, is that this is not the first time Indonesia has experienced an economic recession linked to an increase in minimum wages.
He said that in 1998, for example, Indonesia’s economic growth was minus 17.6 percent, while the inflation rate was close to 78 percent.
Said said that the existing labor union, together with the government and employers’ organizations, agreed not to raise the minimum wage in the midst of a recession.
“But then there was a hard and massive fight from the workers to reject the decision not to go up,” said Said Iqbal.
“Because the agreement does not represent the aspirations that are developing at the factory level. “There was a massive action that was widespread in all regions,” he said.
At that time, Said said President Habibie made the decision to increase the minimum wage by approximately 16 percent.

With the same analogy, according to Said, the current economic and inflation growth is considered to be lower than 1998. This year it is estimated to be minus 8 percent and inflation 3 percent.
On this basis, the KSPI proposes an increase in the 2021 minimum wage of 8 percent.
However, if it is deemed difficult, the wage council and the regional government can negotiate an increase in the rate.
“Moreover, currently there are still many companies operating as usual. So don’t be beaten flat, that all companies are unable to pay the minimum wage increase, “said Said Iqbal.
“Even if there are those who cannot afford it, the law has provided room to postpone the minimum wage,” he said.
