Since the United Kingdom left the European Union at midnight on February 1, 2020, it has been struggling with a serious shortage of truck drivers. At the height of the corona pandemic, there were no fewer than 600,000 drivers short.
Now that the transport sector is picking up again, there is a shortage of about 100,000 truck drivers. This shortage is mainly due to the fact that many drivers from other European Member States who lived and worked in the UK returned to their country of origin after Brexit. The consequences of the corona crisis are still being felt. Far fewer truck driver training courses are still offered due to the corona measures.
