The result is cruel to the organizers and spectators. But the 2022 version of the Happy New Year Tournament in Chartres, the return edition after a three-year absence, did not have a male winner.
It was 6:43 pm when Pierre-Hugues Herbert lost his prop twice during the same exchange. Humidity and potential danger, the match referee decided to interrupt the final at 6-2, 1-4 after probing the other protagonist of the final, Johan Tatlot, who was also the victim of a loss of support during the match previous one.
Two tantalizing finals at the TBA
The minutes passed and the 400 spectators waited almost half an hour for the return of managers and players. The radiators pushed all the way changed nothing and Sébastien Lenoël announced the sentence: “The game will not resume and the 30th edition will remain without a winner,” observed the tournament director.
In this event, unprecedented in Chartres, the organizers have split the prize money for the winner and the finalist in two. As for the CNGT (National Circuit of Major Tournaments) points, the French Tennis Federation, contacted by telephone by the organizers, will decide.
In the women’s final, the final could have ended. And it was Margaux Rouvroy who won at the end of the suspense against Manon Garcia: 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). The 21-year-old Parisian put her name on her TBA list for the first time as her partner from TC Tremblaysien lost her third final in Chartres.
