Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said he will oblige banks, telecommunications companies, large retail chains, insurers, energy companies and airlines to hand over “much of their extra profits” to the country’s state budget. He informed about this decision on his Facebook account.
Orbán pointed out that special taxes will be applied in 2022 and 2023, adding that banks and companies that make “extraordinary profits” in the current difficult situation amid the war in Ukraine and rising prices will have to contribute to strengthening of the Hungarian army and for the financing of the compensations that households will receive for their high household bills.
