Organizers cancel ´the fifth edition of the festival planned for January. An exhibition and a musical theater piece for children will be shown online.

You thought about it for a long time, rescheduled, discarded plans and rescheduled. But now the organizers of the “Dazz – Jazz-Winter Darmstadt” festival have decided to cancel the fifth edition of the festival, which should take place from January 8th to 16th. Meike Heinigk from the Centralstation and Arndt Weidler from the Darmstadt Jazz Institute announced on Thursday that it had been planned for a long time to hold the festival as a “sign of strength”, if necessary in digital form, to show that you are not immune to the corona virus duck away. The Winter Jazz Festival should act as an “encouraging platform” for artists, organizers, but also for the public, in order to “give a little joy in this otherwise joyless time” and at the same time remain creative.

But in the end, the “Dazz” organizers “had to capitulate to the relentlessness of the virus, to the daily increase in the number of infections,” a statement said. The restrictions of the past few weeks would not have had the long-awaited effect of at least making a digital festival possible. Most recently, a band that was supposed to organize the opening of the festival in a live stream had canceled, and the live broadcast of a chanson evening was also on the brink due to travel restrictions.

Heinigk and Weidler also announced that the exhibition “Clickin ‘with Clax” with photographs by William Claxton will open online on Friday, January 8th. In addition, a video of the musical theater piece “Thelonious” is to be made available online for children aged six and over on Sunday, January 10th. In 2022, the “Dazz” will take place from January 14th to 23rd.
