The fireworks at the Petrova Niva celebrations, on the occasion of the 121st anniversary of the Ilinden-Preobrazhensky Uprising, are cancelled. This was announced by the mayor of Malko Tarnovo municipality, Iliyan Yanchev, on his Facebook profile.

The reason for the cancellation of the dawn is the ongoing drought and high temperatures, which are a prerequisite for the occurrence of fires. The solemn dawn-check remains.

“In order to protect the nature around us and prevent possible risks, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the traditional zaria. The program for the event remains the same, without changes, with the strict requirement that no bonfires be lit in the open under any pretext. The safety of everyone present, as well as the preservation of the forest, is of the utmost importance to me this time. Let’s preserve this holy land so that it inspires and unites us in the future as well,” Yanchev wrote.

The national commemorative meeting will be held in the Petrova Niva area on Saturday – August 17.

The celebrations begin at 1 p.m. with the “Notable Anniversaries in the Thracian Movement” exhibition, which will be opened in the on-site museum exhibit. It will also feature an exhibition of old weapons that participated in the Ilinden-Preobrazhensky Uprising, which is organized by the “National Unity Union” association and the “Tradition” association.

From 8:00 p.m., a funeral prayer will be held in the ossuary temple “Sveta Petka” in memory of the deceased Transfigurationists. The opening of the commemorative celebration in front of the memorial in Petrova Niva will be from 8:30 p.m. An hour later there will be a festive concert.

The area of Petrova Niva is located 20 km from Malko Tarnovo. On Preobrazhenie – June 11-13, 1903, there delegates to the congress of the Internal Revolutionary Organization of the Bulgarians from Thrace decided to support the Ilinden Uprising that broke out earlier in Macedonia, BTA recalls.
