Leader of the men’s League A, Montpellier went to seek a victory in four sets in Paris but AS Cannes, winner in Nice, is not left behind.
Montpellier has enforced its rank. Traveling on the Paris floor, the undisputed leader of the Men’s League A went to seek his 16th victory in 19 games played. From the first exchanges, Olivier Lecat’s players took control of operations, immediately widening a gap of four points which then took on a much larger scale. Montpellier, who had a lead of up to twelve points, easily dominated the first set. But the Parisians, led by the inevitable Antonin Rouzier (17 points) had the response with an acceleration at the end of the second round which allowed them to equalize. Sensing the threat to become clearer, Ezequiel Palacios’ teammates then tightened the game and led the score from start to end of the third set to regain control in this meeting. A trend that did not falter in a one-sided fourth set for Montpellier which won without having trembled too much (16-25, 25-22, 17-25, 17-25) to solidify its first place when Paris continues to chain victory and defeat for a ninth place in the standings.
AS Cannes does not let Montpellier go
With this victory in Montpellier, AS Cannes had to win on the Nice floor so as not to let the Héraultais fly away. However, it was the Nice people who got off to the best start before being overwhelmed by the Cannois. Luc Marquet’s players did not give up to win the first set. The second round, if it was not completely a long calm river, saw the teammates of Lincoln Williams (16 points) leading from start to finish to make the break in this meeting. A trend which was then confirmed in the third set. Despite Leo Andric’s 19 points, Nice suffered the game throughout the round and, even if the AS Cannes players missed their first three match points, it was they who had the last laugh ( 16-25, 25-22, 17-25, 17-25). A fourth victory in a row which allows Cannes to stay six lengths from Montpellier when the Nice, penultimate in the standings, lose for the tenth time in a row.
