Dusan Tadic’s Serbia has eliminated Norway in the play-offs for a European Championship ticket. As a result, Erling Haaland and Martin Ödegaard are not active at the European Championship. The Serbs took the victory in the extension.
Norway – Serbia 1-2
Norway, armed with Haaland, Odegaard and Alexander Sorloth (ex-FC Groningen), had a hard time with Serbia. Haaland was invisible and could do nothing against the Serbian defense. Former sc Heerenveen star Filip Djuricic was the closest to a goal in the second half.
But Serbia appeared to be saved by Sergej-Milinkovic Savic. He only came in in the eightieth minute and found it just after two minutes. His goal seemed to give Serbia a place in the final of the play-offs, but Norway equalized in the final phase.
After fifteen minutes in extra time, Savic scored again. The assist was from Tadic, who decided to give the ball away in a favorable position: 1-2. Norway still had chances to enforce a penalty series, but was not so lucky.
Zahavi eliminated, Bozeník is lucky
A penalty series also had to make the decision in three other games: Bosnia and Herzegovina – Northern Ireland (1-1), Scotland – Israel (0-0) and Slovakia – Ireland (0-0) were all decided after 120 minutes.
The Slovakia of Feyenoord player Robert Bozeník took the penalties better than the Irish: 4-2. Bozeník came in in the second half. Israel lost 5-3, partly thanks to a missed penalty from PSV striker Eran Zahavi, who missed the first penalty. His team could no longer rectify that. Northern Ireland dealt a major blow to Bosnia, the opponent of the Dutch national team in the Nations League on Sunday.
