The convention will “quickly develop the statement and send it to the Minister of Science,” assured Chairwoman Claudia von der Linden. She regretted that “the development of the IDSA was again delayed by several weeks without reason.”
Around a month was lost after the rector of the University of Applied Arts, Gerald Bast, resigned from the convention.
In January, he gave the alleged bias of three other members and the lack of content from the new TU as the reason. As a result, the Ministry of Science appointed the rector of the Montanuni Leoben, Wilfried Eichlseder, to the convention. Lindstaedt was elected at the weekend with four votes to two, three had abstained because of bias.
Political debate about schedule
Upper Austria’s SPÖ club chairwoman Sabine Engleitner-Neu again called for a digital university planning inquiry with all relevant stakeholders in order to clarify unresolved questions and points of criticism and “not to squander this once-in-a-century opportunity with hasty quick shots”.
ooh NEOS club chairman Felix Eypeltauer demanded, “the political influence and the unnecessary comments from the top ÖVP side must come to an end, especially with the regulatory procedures initiated today.” The university, which is not even standing yet, already has a lot of political influence in a provincial way reputation cost.
Provincial Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) appealed in a statement “to all those involved to pull themselves together and become aware of the great responsibility they bear in the course of founding a university”.
He expects the ministry to examine the supervisory complaint quickly and the founding convention and rector to provide a realistic timetable for how things will continue until the start of the course. The Greens see Stelzer more challenged. “The university was his project, he wanted to implement it as quickly as possible,” demanded the Upper Austrian. Club chairman Severin Mayr. Stelzer must now “ensure clarification, smoothing and, above all, a reasonably normal transition to university operations”, intervene and show leadership.
