Yesterday, opponents of the Corona measures demonstrated in Gmunden and Steyr. On Friday, around 1,500 people marched in Vöcklabruck – and 600 people took to the streets in Linz. Except for the rally in Linz, the gatherings were not registered by the police. The experience on Friday has also shown again that a number of participants do not adhere to legal regulations, including mask requirements and distance.
In Vöcklabruck there were 76 reports because of this. Three people were temporarily arrested for identity verification and one for aggressive behavior. Also at the rally in Linz, which was attended by 600 people on Friday, a demonstrator who is said to have behaved aggressively was temporarily arrested. Apart from that, the demonstrations were peaceful.
Many compatriots do not understand that such demonstrations, which are also unannounced, are not broken up despite curfew and the obligation to wear a mask. In principle, such “walks” can hardly be legally forbidden or even dissolved, the district authority Vöcklabruck announced on request from OÖN. Even if the demo is not registered, this is only an administrative violation and not a criminal offense.
Right against left in Graz
In Graz, too, there were demonstrations on the main square on Saturday afternoon, which required a larger police presence. First, members of a right-wing extremist organization gathered for the rally. Then a few dozen hooded people from a left-wing Antifa group joined them. The counter-demonstration was not registered.
The police separated the activists and there were no riots. According to estimates by the police, there were a total of around 250 people on the main square in Graz.
