“In 2022 there was not an eligible young person who was left out of Porta 65”, said the Minister of Housing, Marina Gonçalves, noting that this was the first time that this had happened since the creation of the program and indicating that last year this support arrived. to 21,052 young people.
Marina Gonçalves mentioned these data in parliament during a debate in which the PSD takes five diplomas in the area of housing to votes and during which criticism of the Government’s lack of measures to tackle the housing problem over these seven years was recurrent.
The minister stressed that the “More Housing” program, which will be approved in its entirety by the Council of Ministers by the end of the month, is “a complement” to what has been done. She also stated that it is not planned to end the Porta 65 youth rental support program, but rather its reassessment in 2026.
The amount allocated to the Porta 65 was 24.5 million euros in 2022, having been increased by 30% in 2023 (year in which the value rises to 31.3 million euros).
During her speech, and in response to several of the criticisms she heard throughout the debate, Marina Gonçalves stated that the Mais Habitação measures “are not meant to end Local Accommodation” or to devalue investment by families, maintaining that the what is proposed is a “compatibility” to see how everyone can be “part of the solution”.
