No Economic Recovery Until All Countries Get Vaccines

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the importance of availability vaccine Covid-19 for the whole world to encourage recovery the economy. Without a vaccine the pandemic will continue and hit the economy.

Therefore, access to vaccines is one of the focuses of discussion at this year’s G20 Summit (Summit) which was held virtually by Saudi Arabia on Saturday and Sunday (21-22 November 2020).

“Access to vaccines is important, because there will be no economic recovery in the whole world until all countries have access to the vaccine,” said Sri Mulyani in a press conference after attending the G20 Summit, quoted on Sunday (22/11/2020).

He explained that in the meeting there were two focus of discussion, namely finance track and sherpa track. Focus on finance track is about efforts to recover the economy due to the pandemic, including financing for vaccines, which of course consume enormous resources.

So in this case, it will discuss how countries around the world, especially developing countries, can get access to the Covid-19 vaccine.

“This is where the role of multilateral institutions is very important, how can they provide financial support for developing or poor countries, so that all of them get vaccines,” he explained.

Sri Mulyani said, in the meeting between the finance ministers of the G20 countries, it was recognized that the pandemic had had a tremendous impact on the economy of every country. So that we need joint efforts to handle Covid-19 so that the economy will recover again.

Covid-19 has caused a very, very extraordinary impact in various countries. Therefore, all countries carry out policies together to deal with Covid-19 and control the economy to recover,” he explained.
