The state initiative “No degree without connection” supports students from the 8th grade on in the transition from school to work. In order to bring young people back together personally with companies and educational institutions after the “contact ban” caused by the pandemic, the city of Duisburg launched the “HAND DRAUF” training fair in the city center at the beginning of June.
All the important actors from the areas of crafts and care, as well as educational institutions, vocational colleges, the employment agency and the job center were represented. The respective representatives were able to present their educational offerings in their pavilions: there was a lot of advice, tinkering and make-up done. Some booths also invited young people to try things out: handcrafting a cube, choosing the right lip color or trying out baked delicacies – “HAND DRUF” attracted the interest of those who were undecided. Numerous young people took the opportunity and during the day at the fair got an intensive insight into the wide field of connection possibilities. Through individual consultations, concrete agreements could also be made for one or the other.
Astrid Neese, Alderman for Education, Labor and Social Affairs, also tried out her handiwork at the fair and sees “HAND DRAUF” as a great success: “The municipal coordination, together with the various actors in the educational landscape, has many young people about to leave school be able to show a concrete connection possibility. This support must not be denied to future graduating students. ‘HAND DRUF’ must definitely become a fixed date in the student body’s calendar!”
