Pandemic forces, the traditional show of July 1, hosted by Pierre-Yves Lord and Serena Ryder, will take place on the small screen.

As for the 22h fireworks display, it will be entirely virtual. There will also be no family activities on Parliament Hill, as is usually the case.

The vast grounds of Parliament, which is usually the epicenter of the holiday, had been removed from the plans for celebrations even before COVID-19 due to the renovations to the Center Block.

As the site takes up 50% of the available space, the stage for the July 1 performance was to be moved to Major’s Hill Park, behind the Château Laurier. But the pandemic forced the organizers to opt for a presentation behind closed doors for a TV and web audience.

In Montreal, the Samuel-De Champlain bridge will illuminate for the first time in red and white at sunset and until 1 a.m.
