No congress on children’s athletics in Darmstadt

Lectures on children’s athletics fall victim to Corona. Now further digital meetings are to be offered to the district associations. The district council is also going digitally.

DARMSTADT – (revo). Another congress on children’s athletics should take place next Friday in Darmstadt. Should. Because those responsible have now canceled this appointment due to the corona restrictions and at the same time excluded a digital variant.

The premiere event in November 2019 met with great interest even beyond the borders of the Darmstadt-Dieburg athletics circle. At the time, Dominic Ulrich, the chairman of the German Athletics Youth, gave a lecture on the topic of promoting and spotting talent, as well as moto pedagogue Carolin Wick on issues relating to the promotion of elementary movement. The follow-up congress in cooperation with the German Athletics Association (DLV) should now be held in its rooms in the House of Athletics – for trainers, sports teachers, interested parents, children’s athletics station managers and club representatives. The focus would have been on walking, which the DLV included in the concept last year as a new children’s athletics discipline.

“We have now held a few digital meetings with our district associations and have found that the interests, questions and needs of those involved are currently very different,” says district chairwoman Andrea Zemke (Klein-Umstadt), explaining the reasons for the rejection. “There are currently no questions about walking or other disciplines, but legal questions about Corona or training options with a distance.” The decision was therefore made to offer further digital meetings with the district associations instead of the congress. “We have also invited the Hessian Athletics Association and the DLV to participate as guests and, if necessary, to speak in the hall on the subject of promoting talent from a distance,” says Zemke.

Peggy Pittner moves to the district board

For the first time digitally the Association Day of the Athletics Circle Darmstadt-Dieburg took place on Monday, in which almost 40 club representatives took part. “It was important for the board team to hold another district meeting this year, even if the vote of the democratically elected district board would have been sufficient,” said chairwoman Andrea Zemke, explaining the motivation for the premiere.

At the two-hour meeting, there were no explosive topics on the agenda. In addition to a resolution to hold the district assembly in the autumn as well, there was a by-election for the district executive. For Rudi Werner, who left for private reasons, Peggy Pittner from Klein-Umstadt was appointed as his successor in the competition area. Pittner has been a referee for four years, has successfully completed training as an association supervisor and is an active track and field athlete herself. She also works as a trainer at TSV Klein-Umstadt.
