“However, for a certain period of time, the US side has said many irresponsible things and done many provocative things in Taiwan, the South China Sea, and close-range reconnaissance by warships and aircraft,” Wu Qian said, as quoted by Al Jazeera. .
The comments came a day after President Joe Biden’s administration invited Taiwan to the upcoming virtual summit for Democracy. The invitation to Taiwan comes amid already escalating tensions on the island.
Taiwan is the only government on the invitation list that Washington does not recognize as a sovereign nation. So far, the US has maintained a policy of strategic ambiguity towards Taiwan, offering economic and military support and regularly praising Taiwan as a beacon of democracy.

Wu Qian added that certain aspects of China’s sovereignty cannot be violated. “Especially on the Taiwan issue, China has no room for compromise, and the US side should have no illusions about this,” he said.
Beijing has not ruled out taking Taiwan by force and is increasingly pressuring other countries to downgrade or cut ties with the island. They have increasingly carried out exercises meant to flex China’s military power near the island in recent months.
