The Danish elections do not seem to have a clear winner for the moment. Exit polls from Danish broadcaster TV2 and public broadcaster DR show that both the center-left bloc led by current Social Democratic Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the center-right bloc do not have sufficient votes for a majority in parliament.
Former Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s new party of moderates now appears to hold the key. His team can help both left and right to victory. Or he can form a purple government, a center coalition with parties from both blocs. There hasn’t been such a purple government since 1978.
According to DR’s exit poll, the left bloc gets 85 of the 179 seats in the Danish parliament and the right bloc has 73 seats. Rasmussen’s party appears to be aiming for 17 seats.
