The Public Prosecution Service has not been able to determine the exact motive of the man from Amsterdam who committed a hostage-taking in the Apple Store in Amsterdam last February. That is what the Public Prosecution Service says, almost a year after the event. The investigation has now been completed.

On February 22 last year, the armed man held a man from Bulgaria hostage in the shop on Leidseplein for hours. Among other things, he demanded crypto coins. Dozens of people were trapped in the store all evening. Towards the end of the evening, the hostage unexpectedly ran away and the hostage-taker came after him.

The police hit the hostage taker with a car, after which he could be arrested. The man wore explosive material on his body, but it was not on edge. He also had two weapons with him. The man later died of his injuries.

Uncertainty about the origin of the weapon

The OM says that the investigation has not made it clear how the man obtained the explosives and weapons. The Public Prosecution Service also assumes that he acted alone.

“The investigation has not produced any indication that the man would have acted together with others,” said a spokesman.
