(Reuters) – China and the United States have failed to come to an agreement on the fight against climate change, Beijing refusing calls from Washington to make more public commitments on the matter, the South reported on Friday. China Morning Post (SCMP).
Visiting China, the United States’ special envoy for climate, John Kerry, submitted to the Beijing authorities proposals to strengthen their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but he was told that “China already has its own programs and its own roadmap to achieve its climate goals,” said the English-language Hong Kong daily, citing an unidentified source familiar with bilateral discussions.
These Sino-American discussions come in anticipation of the 26th UN climate conference (COP26), which is to be held from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow (Scotland), after being postponed for a year due to the health crisis.
