A week after the fatal attack dog attack on a pensioner in the municipality of Naarn, the 37-year-old dog owner was able to be questioned about it for the first time. When questioned, the woman stated that she was walking three fighting dogs (Staffordshire Terriers) at the same time. Until now it was assumed that she was only traveling with one dog (Elmo). All three were on a leash. Elmo, the dog that had already been euthanized, was traveling without a muzzle, the other two had muzzles on, says the responsible public prosecutor Ulrike Breiteneder in an interview with nachrichten.at. At the scene of the accident, investigators found a stripped muzzle.
The later victim may have approached the dogs from behind on a dirt road. What happened next happened too quickly and the dog owner couldn’t remember exactly. The dogs ran off and knocked their owner down. “It will take months until the technical investigations are completed and it becomes clear how many dogs were directly involved in the attack,” says Breiteneder. According to the public prosecutor, the dog owner is being investigated for grossly negligent homicide. The penalty range is up to three years imprisonment.
