After the invasion of Ukraine, Russian athletes, who have been sidelined from the world stage, are getting a chance again. As the ban continues in European countries, the decision is to compete in any other continent and help them to qualify for the Olympics. The International Committee stated that the Asian Olympic Committee has agreed to give a chance to the Russian athletes. Apart from Russia, Belarusian players of similar price can also get back on track with this.
Athletes from Russia and Belarus cannot compete at any venue in Europe. As the Russian occupation of Ukraine still continues, the approval process will be delayed. Considering that, efforts are being made to provide opportunities for the players elsewhere. Russian stars have not participated in any of the major venues since the invasion began last year.
The U.S. Olympic Committee had previously stated that these athletes could compete under the country’s flag if they had to. The International Olympic Committee also says that an athlete cannot continue to lose an opportunity because of a passport.
At the same time, even if concessions are made, there will be a condition that they do not publicly support the invasion of Ukraine.
The Paris Olympics qualifiers have started all over the world. This year will be even hotter. 10,500 athletes have the opportunity to compete in 32 major categories.
