RIEMST – The bats in the caves of Riemst are not counted this year, for fear of corona. This virus originated in Asian bats. Natuurpunt and virologist Steven Van Gucht do not rule out the possibility that corona will again jump from humans to animals. “We don’t want a new reservoir of mutations of the virus in bats,” said Van Gucht, who studied veterinary medicine.
