Samuel Umtiti is still on FC Barcelona’s payroll, but is expected to be permanently removed from it in the summer. He is doing well at his loan club US Lecce, but his future there has yet to be determined.
Last summer at FC Barcelona they were delighted to have finally found a buyer for Samuel Umtiti after countless transfer windows. Those responsible at Barça are also pleased that things are going pretty well for the 29-year-old at US Lecce.
According to Sport, the Blaugrana want to finally end the long-term employment relationship with Umtiti in the summer until 2026. But the central defender can continue like this, after the World Cup break Umtiti only missed a few minutes of the game and is now a regular player.
The loan to Apulia has been agreed until the end of the season. Whether Umtiti’s long-term future lies in Lecce is still completely open. With the French looking set to have a good season, Ligue 1 clubs are said to be interested and will monitor the situation over the coming months.
Umtiti has always been open to a return to France, where he would like to return to his youth club Olympique Lyon.
