No away goals rule, Villarreal confident against Liverpool

Villarreal

Villarreal indeed have to pursue a two-goal deficit at home Liverpool. However, the absence of the away goals rule made El Submarino more confident to win.

Villarreal on their trip to Anfield last week did make Liverpool difficult throughout the game Champions League semifinal first leg. Despite continuing to be pressed, Villarreal can defend well.

Only in the 53rd minute, own goals from Pervin Estupinan and Sadio Mane two minutes later ended Villarreal’s resistance. They were lucky not to lose more than 0-2 because Liverpool’s two chances hit the post.

That capital will be used by Villarreal when they host Liverpool at El Madrigal, Wednesday (4/5/2022) early morning WIB. However, Villarreal must be vigilant because their record at home this season is not okay.

After only picking up four points in the group stage, Villarreal have only won once, namely over Bayern Munich in the first leg of the quarter-finals and a 1-1 draw with Juventus in the first leg of the last 16.

Regarding the bad record at home, Villarreal coach Unai Emery don’t mind it. Because with the new rules that eliminate away goals, the chances of his team qualify for the final are still wide open.

Because, winning by two goals will force Liverpool to go into extra time, so there is still 2 x 15 minutes. Therefore, Emery asked for the full support of Villarreal fans to burn the spirits of the players.

“We are in good form. It is complicated after being 0-2 down. We will create a situation where we can later equalize the score. The absence of away goals is in our favor,” Emery said on UEFA’s official website.

“Liverpool won in the first leg because of the home factor, but we were able to defend well and keep them from scoring more goals,” he continued.

“We are very excited to play in the semi-finals of the Champions League. We are ready to play our style and come back. We want to enjoy this moment with our fans.”
