The statements by the Minister of Education, Óscar Becerra, against a group of Aymara women who were exercising their right to protest are doubly unacceptable because they have under his responsibility the formation of citizens that interculturality should be sought, said, on La Mula TV, the former head of the Ministry of Education (Minedu), Patricia Salas.
In the program ‘Al Filo’, Salas pointed out that “no authority could express himself as the minister has expressed about a group of citizens, much less the Minister of Education because he is the one who has on his shoulders and in his responsibility education of citizenship“.
“And the citizens have to tend towards interculturality, to enforce rights. And these citizens who are protesting, I can’t imagine any more democratic act than asking for the president to leave with elections, than asking that we change the rules of the game of the country with a Constituent Assembly. They are highly democratic acts“said the former head of Minedu.
In an interview with Javier Torres, the former Minister of Education clarified that can not be accused of a terrorist who is asking for a Constituent Assembly or look for a general election.
“It is not that a president or president is going to be imposed, it is not that their Constitution or an idea is going to be imposed. The Constituent Assembly is a space for public debate. There is nothing more democratic than telling a people and some authorities, that you do not agree with the country’s rules of the game and that you have to sit down and discuss them. Where? In a Constituent Assembly, that once again institute a new agreement on the following rules of the game. That is what we must reveal and give new meaning to the protests,” stressed the sociologist.
Therefore, Salas reiterated, Becerra’s statements are doubly unacceptable for being Minister of Education.
On the other hand, regarding the violence in the protests, the former head of Minedu pointed out that the violence is being caused by the State with irrational repression.
