British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris believesthat agreements on security guarantees concluded with partner countries are not capable of replacing Ukraine’s membership in NATO, but only bring closer its entry into the Alliance. «This is also written in our agreement with Ukraine.noted the ambassador. — This agreement is the path to NATO membership. And this is not an alternative to NATO. The guarantee that Ukraine must have is Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Through the implementation of the security agreement, Britain can be confident that it will hasten the moment when Ukraine joins NATO».
He added that the UK will support Ukraine in the long term, because this is stated in the treaty.
«Every year we will give 3 billion pounds sterling to protect Ukraine, until 2030, but as long as necessary“, concluded Martin Harris.
However, not all allied countries are decisive about helping Ukraine. In particular, France will not fulfill its promise of €3 billion in aid to Ukraine in 2024.
