No agreement and delay in health care in Saanenland and Simmental

On August 25, a vote will be taken in seven communities: the community meetings will be about the loan for integrated health care in Saanenland and Simmental. This was originally supposed to take over the GSS from the hospital STS from January 1, 2024. It is now clear that this will happen in January 2025 at the earliest and only if all communities say “yes”, on August 25th. Only five municipal councils recommended this “yes” to their municipal assembly: Lauenen, Lenk, Saanen, St. Stephan and Zweisimmen. Boltigen and Gsteig recommend their voters to reject the loans at the municipal meeting. The rejection of gsteig became public as early as March, after which the votes were postponed and space was created to answer open questions. According to Gsteig, the organization or integration of senior living was still unclear at the time. Discussions did take place, says Boltiger municipal council president Anna Bieri, but the questions could not be answered to her satisfaction. Precisely the situation of the old people’s homes that work, which would be partially integrated, is a reason for rejection for the Boltigen municipal council. In the end, however, the people must decide, Bieri continues. According to the co-president of the Simmental-Saanenland mountain region, Toni von Grünigen, the information event next Tuesday, August 8th is there. He hopes that the Saanenländer:innen and SIMmental:innen will appear in large numbers and that the questions can be answered.
