61-year-old Antwerp-Dutch “football agent” Abraham S. of Goes was sentenced on Wednesday to 16 years in prison in England for transporting 74 kilos of heroin and 128 kilos of cocaine seized at the Channel Tunnel terminal last spring. Earlier this month, S. was sentenced to five years in prison in Antwerp for fraudulent practices.
On 10 June 2022, a white Belgian-registered Renault Master van was stopped before its driver boarded a train from France to the UK. The driver told Border Force officers that he was traveling to Ashford, staying overnight and then returning.
Side panels
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has been called in to investigate after border guards found parcels of heroin and cocaine hidden in the side panels of the vehicle. A total of 74 kilograms of heroin and 128 kilograms of cocaine were found, with an estimated UK street value of over £12 million, according to the NCA.
Second van
Half an hour later, a second van was arrested, driven by 61-year-old Abraham S. of Goes. He also stated that he was traveling to Ashford and would be staying overnight. No drugs were found in his vehicle, but a power drill, plug and bolts matching those found in the paneling of the first van were found, suggesting he was involved in the drug cover-up.
S. initially denied this during questioning with detectives, but was convicted and sentenced to 16 years in prison on Wednesday at Canterbury Crown Court for importing class A drugs. The driver of the first van, Marius V. , 69, from the Borgerhout district of Antwerp, was found not guilty.
Crook
“Football agent” Abraham S. was sentenced to five years in prison by the Antwerp Criminal Court in early December for fraudulent practices. The Dutchman from Antwerp from Goes posed as a major football broker and defrauded business partners out of almost three million euros. S. was once an assistant coach at Royal Antwerp FC.
