NEW JERSEY — NJ Transit has suspended rail service to and from NY Penn Station due to a stuck Amtrak bridge Thursday morning.
Midtown Direct service was diverted to Hoboken before noon.
NJ Transit train tickets and passes are being accepted by PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street in the city. Find more information about alternative services here.
It was unclear how long it would take to repair the bridge. The suspension comes amid a week of public hearings across New Jersey on NJ Transit’s proposed 15% fare increase, which would mark its first increase in nearly a decade.
Amtrak described the problem as a maintenance one. He warned of long delays between New York and Newark.
As of 11:25 am ET, All services operating between New York (NYP) and Newark (NWK) are currently experiencing delays due to unforeseen bridge maintenance on the Portal Bridge. Updates to follow as more information becomes available.
