In a few days, the holiday weekend of the 4th of July celebration arrives and NJ Transit offers an earlier service starting Friday to help users enjoy a more comfortable way their trip, including going to see the fireworks artificial.
The agency reminds that the long weekend of Independence Day in the United States is a good time for customers to take advantage of travel options to fun summer destinations, such as the Jersey Shore, Monmouth Park, Six Flags Great Adventure or Hurricane Harbor.
Here we share the service that NJ Transit will offer this weekend:
Friday first of July
NJ Transit rail, bus and light rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule with the following enhancements:
- Additional outbound trains will operate from approximately 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Newark airport stops will be added to select trains and certain connections in Secaucus will be adjusted.
- Additional buses will operate from the Port Authority Bus Terminal on more than two dozen bus routes beginning at noon.
Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3
Trains:
- Rail service will operate on a regular weekend schedule.
Bus:
- Bus service will operate on regular weekend schedules.
Light Rail:
- The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a weekend schedule.
- Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday and Sunday schedule respectively.
- River LINE will operate on Saturday and Sunday hours respectively.
Monday July 4: Independence Day
Train:
- Trains will operate on weekends/major holidays on all lines.
Bus:
- Northern and Central New Jersey bus routes will operate on a Saturday schedule. Southern New Jersey bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. NOTE: Buses may be subject to detours and service delays for 4th of July events and parades in various cities.
Light Rail:
- Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.
- Beginning at 10:00 am on July 4, HBLR will adjust routes that normally traverse and serve Exchange Place by terminating one stop before the Exchange Place station. Service from Tonnelle Ave. and Hoboken will terminate at Harborside. West Side Ave. and 8th St. service will terminate at Essex St.
- Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday/holiday schedule.
- River LINE will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.

You can visit the New Jersey shore from New York for less than $20 Monday through Friday. NJ Transit customers traveling to Long Branch and stations south of it on the North Jersey Coast Line can use a special promo code on the NJ Transit mobile app to receive spectacular savings of over 40% on regular rates. That means customers coming from New York City can visit the shoreline at Long Branch for less than $20 roundtrip.
Customers will need to check www.njtransit.com/shore for a new code each week. Promo codes are only valid for same-day, weekday activation, and each code allows customers to purchase and activate up to two roundtrip tickets at a time. Code is limited to one use per customer per week and must include a Long Branch destination or any station south of Long Branch on New Jersey’s North Shoreline to receive special savings. Customers in southern New Jersey can also reach the coast. Customers can get special promotional codes every week at www.njtransit.com/ac to use on the NJ Transit mobile app to receive an incredible 50% off travel on the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL) between Philadelphia and Atlantic City weekday. With this discount, customers can travel weekdays roundtrip from Philadelphia to Atlantic City for just $10. Promo codes are only valid for same-day activation Monday through Friday, and each code allows customers to purchase and activate up to two roundtrip tickets at a time. The code is limited to one use per customer per week. Cash during the week, not holidays, until September 2.
Summer in the city!
NJ Transit customers can also use the promo codes “NYCPASS” and “PHILLYPASS” on the NJ Transit mobile app to receive a 40% discount roundtrip ride to Philadelphia or New York City. Each code allows customers to purchase and activate up to two roundtrip tickets, which must be activated on the same day. Each code can only be redeemed once per customer during the summer, so be sure to make the most of your trip! Cash during the week, not holidays, until September 2.

Show your friends how easy, convenient and affordable NJ Transit is all summer long by using promo code “VIBES22” on the NJ Transit mobile app for “Buy One, Get One Free” round-trip between any origin and destination . Only one code per customer per month can be used during the promotion and all tickets expire at the end of the promotion on September 4th.
