NJ LOTTERY LOOKBACK: Juan Carlos Osorio is named DT of RBNY

On a day like today in 2007, Juan Carlos Osorio was appointed head coach of the New York Red Bulls. The Colombian coach led our club in 61 games over two seasons. Between January 1, 2000 and June 30, 2001, he served as technical assistant to the technical director, Octavio Zambrano.

After his time with the Red Bulls, Osorio managed the Colombian teams Once Caldas and Atlético Nacional, the Mexican club Puebla FC and the Brazilian club São Paulo FC.

Osorio guided the Mexico National Team to the 2018 World Cup, where El Tri finished among the top 16 teams and defeated the German National Team in the group stage.

The former technical director of RBNY also spent a brief period as technical director of the Paraguay National Team between 2018 and 2019.

Osorio led our club to our first MLS Cup final in 2008 after defeating the Houston Dynamo in the Conference Semifinals and Real Salt Lake in the Conference Finals. Juan Pablo Ángel finished that MLS season with 16 goals during the regular season and two in the Playoffs.
