Nizar Baraka was unanimously re-elected, in the early hours of this Sunday in Bouznika, general secretary of the Istiqlal Party (PI) for a second term, at the end of the voting operation which took place during the first session of the National Council of the party.
Mr. Baraka was the sole candidate after Rachid Afilal withdrew his candidacy for the post of secretary general of the party, which is holding its 18th National Congress under the theme “Renewing the pact for the homeland and the citizen”.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, Mr. Baraka praised the efforts of all Istiqlaliens for having made this “historic” stage a success and for having renewed confidence in the “collective project” initiated during the 17th congress, expressing its determination to continue the implementation of the said project by charting the next step in order to improve the performance of the party, its positioning and its influence, as well as its effectiveness in the service of the Nation and citizens.
Furthermore, he insisted on the implementation of the recommendations of the 18th congress, as part of a new strategy which clearly and precisely defines the objectives and action plans so that the party is there for the next elections and continues to act to strengthen and expand reconciliation and trust within the PI.
The secretary general of the Istiqlal Party highlighted the strengthening of the party’s position in the government majority, noting that the national partisan and political scene is today going through a moment of revision, restructuring and edification, this which constitutes an opportunity which allows the party to regain its natural and influential place as a component of the majority and of political and institutional life.
Note that the work of the National Council of the party continued to elect the members of the Executive Committee.
