Nitin Jeeha taken to hospital on his 3rd day of hunger strike

The village councilor of Saint-Hubert, Nitin Jeeha, who had started a hunger strike since Tuesday morning in Saint-Hilaire, to protest against the lack of public transport serving the Saint-Hubert / Mahébourg line (Route 11), was rushed to hospital yesterday by the Samu after losing consciousness around 2 p.m.

Nitin Jeeha had already deprived himself of food for seven days in February 2021 on behalf of the inhabitants, exasperated by the deafening silence of the authorities in the face of the same problems in the region of Saint-Hubert, Saint-Hilaire and Riche-en-Eau.

Nitin Jeeha has been struggling for two years to put an end to the ordeal of those traveling by bus on the Saint-Hubert/Mahébourg line (Route 11), but nothing helps. The problem of serial delays and schedule changes has even worsened.

The National Land Transport Authority (NLTA) had nevertheless given the assurance to the inhabitants last August that the two individual buses, which have been playing absentee subscribers for more than a year, would be operational again. But nothing will have happened.

“Pa sipoze ena sis bis ki ena patant pouroule? Mo found zis kat lor sime. De lot bis-la pe slept in garaz! It’s been going on for more than a year,” Nitin Jeeha said in November last year, brandishing the threat of launching a second hunger strike in protest. Which finally lasted only three days, the condition of the village councilor deteriorating yesterday around 2 p.m.

The Samu staff, who intervened, gave him first aid before transporting him to the hospital.
