Nissan unveils the new Qashqai with an interesting hybrid system

The upcoming crossover Nissan Qashqai will have a somewhat unusual hybrid powertrain. The carmaker announced this in a press release attached to the video. The device is called e-Power and although it includes an internal combustion engine, the wheels are powered exclusively by electricity.

The internal combustion engine functions exclusively as a generator of electricity, which is then consumed by the electric motor. There is no talk of performance yet, but according to Nissan, the size of the electric motor is more typical for purely electric cars. He also says that the goal is to offer people the experience of driving an electric car, but without worrying about the limited range of such a car.

In addition to this device, a 1.3-liter petrol engine with a mild hybrid system is also to be offered. On the contrary, diesel will not be available, at least according to current information. All-wheel drive, yes, but it is not yet known which drive.

The ATV and 20 ”wheels also get a better rear axle – multi-link suspension instead of the basic torsion bar. There will be McPherson-type suspension in the front in all variants. Nissan further states that the new Qashqai has a body that is 41 percent stiffer in torsion, but at the same time it is 60 kg lighter thanks to the aluminum and composite body panels.

It is also worth mentioning the improved package of ProPilot driving assistants, which, in addition to reading traffic signs, can also take over the highest allowed speed for cruise control. It can also be set according to the data from the navigation, either at the entrance to the village or at the approaching turn.
