Nissan will build a battery factory in the United Kingdom, with an investment of approximately 1,400 million dollars (million dollars), where it will produce a new electric vehicle and generate 6,200 jobs.
Nissan’s battery supplier, China’s Envision AESC, will invest 620 million dollars in this factory that will run on renewable energy and will enable the group’s 100,000 electric cars to be equipped per year.
The Japanese manufacturer plans to invest up to 585 million dollars in the manufacture of this fully electric vehicle and the municipal authorities of Sunderland, in the north of the country, will provide the rest.
Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, described this post-Brexit investment as a “great vote of confidence in the United Kingdom”, as the property will be next to the existing headquarters in Sunderland.
Kwasi Kwarteng, UK Minister for Business, commented that “the vehicles produced at this factory, the batteries produced entirely in the UK’s first mega-plant of this size, will play a major role in our transition from vehicles to gasoline or diesel to electric vehicles. “
For his part, Lei Zhang, founder and CEO of Envision Group, stated that his company is investing in a long-term partnership with Nissan “to manufacture long-lasting, high-capacity batteries to produce affordable electric vehicles for millions of motorists.”
Nissan began building its first electric vehicle and launched its battery production in Sunderland in 2013 with its Leaf model., according to an AFP publication.
