Nissan: there will be no sedans in Russia (and Juke too)

Currently, Nissan offers only five models in Russia: 4 crossovers and an SUV, as well as a GT-R supercar. Meanwhile, in the US market, Nissan has 17 models among which 4 sedans at once: Versa, Sentra, Altima and Maxima. Plus there is also an electric Nissan Leaf.

Meanwhile, quite a lot of sedans and hatchbacks were sold in Russia: Almera, Primera, Maxima, Micra, Sentra, Note, Teana, Tiida.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show in late 2019, a new generation of the Center was introduced – a model traditionally popular in the local market. The car received a design in the spirit of the current Maxima (another name we have forgotten), and thanks to the silhouette with an assertive front and a low “soaring” roof, it looks more dynamic than its predecessor.

Only Russian assembly

In Russia, the sedan and hatchback segment still prevails – it accounts for almost 58% of the market. However, Nissan is confident that in 2020 such models would not be in sufficient demand in Russia.

While we are not ready to talk about the return of such models to our model line, but theoretically this is possible and directly depends on the development of the market situation in the passenger car segments.

Roman Skolsky

PR Director of Nissan and Datsun in Russia.

In addition, you should not wait for the appearance in Russia of such models as the new generation Nissan Juke and the Patrol SUV, which recently experienced a major update. “These are niche cars not made in Russia. Therefore, they will certainly be very expensive. In the current falling market, we don’t see a point in selling them, ”said Roman Skolsky, PR Director of Nissan and Datsun in Russia, at Auto Mail.ru.

The fate of the electric car Nissan Leaf is also a big question. “The fuel price is still low compared to Europe, the harsh climate remains one of the most important reasons why electric cars are still not very interesting for the Russian market. But interest in the topic in Russia is growing every year. The development of electric transport primarily requires the creation of demand in the market, the development of infrastructure, legislative changes, and the creation of preferential conditions for electric vehicle owners, ”Roman Skolsky explained.

New era

But the model Ariya – the first all-electric crossover Nissan – may appear with us in 2021 or 2022. “Ariya is of great interest to the Russian market, we plan to introduce it to the Russian buyer, but we will be ready to inform you of the details later,” Nissan representative told Auto Mail.ru

Recall that the electric Nissan Ariya was introduced at the end of last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. Technical details are scarce. It is only known that this is a car with a two-axis drive, and therefore with two electric motors. A kind of Leaf-crossover. Stated the availability of fast charging, as well as the ability to update the “firmware” of everything and everything (from multimedia to engines) by air.

A serial coupe-shaped electric crossover from Nissan is expected in 2020. I wonder if the huge 21-inch wheels will remain on it? According to the brand’s chief designer, Alfonso Albaisa, Ariya Concept has become the first-born of the brand’s new ideology and design language, and the new platform for electric vehicles opens up great prospects for creativity. It is possible that some solutions will appear in the next generations of Qashqai and X-Trail models.
