Carmaker Nissan sold its Russian parts for the symbolic sum of 1 euro. As a result, the Japanese company faces a loss of 100 billion yen (707 million euros) on the pieces sold.
Nissan will leave the country due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February. Shortly thereafter, Nissan has already ceased operations in the country. Now, six months later, it has been decided to sell the parts.
These include a plant in St. Petersburg and a sales department in Moscow. The new owner of the Nissan business is the Russian state-owned company Nami. Both sides have agreed that Nissan will be able to buy back the parts within six years.
After Russia invaded Ukraine more than six months ago, many Western companies have decided to stop Russian operations and leave the country. French carmaker Renault, with which Nissan has formed an alliance, has also decided to sell its assets in Russia to an investor, reportedly for 1 ruble (less than 2 euro cents).
