Nissan Egypt and the Car Replacement Initiative: Resuming Production and Supply of Models for Natural Gas Program

The Car Replacement Initiative Department held a meeting with Nissan Egypt, during the past few days, to discuss the resumption of production and supply of its models, as part of the outdated presidential initiative to work with natural gas.

It is noteworthy that Nissan Egypt had temporarily stopped producing and supplying its models in favor of the car replacement initiative, in addition to withholding the price lists of “Sunny” and “Sentra” cars participating in the initiative since last December.

Informed sources told Al-Mal that the meeting held between the administration supervising the car replacement initiative and Nissan Egypt came within the framework of discussions about resuming production and supply of its models for the replacement initiative project during the coming period.

The sources added that the department concerned with the car replacement initiative discussed, on the sidelines of the meeting it held with Nissan Egypt, pricing mechanisms for its models produced and supplied within the project, especially after the high production cost.

She pointed out that it was confirmed by the initiative management to provide obsolete cars to run on natural gas at discounted prices for customers wishing to implement the vehicle replacement program.

She confirmed that some final points related to Nissan’s pricing mechanisms and production plans are currently being studied, and that it is expected that orders to purchase the Japanese brand’s models will be re-received through the replacement initiative website in the coming days.

Nissan Egypt is participating in the initiative to replace obsolete cars with natural gas, by producing and supplying two models, the “Sunny” and “Sentra”, which are equipped with “gasoline-natural gas” dual fuel operating systems.

The “Nissan Sunny” models are equipped with a four-cylinder engine, with a capacity of 1500 cc, producing 108 “horsepower” with a maximum torque of 134 Newton / meter, connected to a four-speed automatic transmission.

While the “Sentra” is powered by a four-cylinder engine, with a capacity of 1600 cc, it outputs 118 “horses” with a maximum torque of 154 Newton / meter, connected to a five-speed automatic transmission.

It is noteworthy that the car replacement initiative announced, earlier, the delivery of approximately 27.2 thousand vehicles to customers who accepted the program to replace obsolete cars to work with natural gas, since the start of the initiative’s activation until the middle of this month.

The initiative indicated that the total number of models that will be allocated to customers during the next month is about 400 vehicles of the various brands participating in the initiative.
