LFollowing the presentation of its strategy for the coming years within the framework of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, Nissan is preparing to meet its stated objectives, especially that of presenting eight electric vehicles by 2023. One of them we could see looming in a video published by the brand itself in which he showed his upcoming releases in the shadows: the Ariya, his first 100% electric SUV, derived from the concept that debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show. Now it has a date to be unveiled: the final version will appear on Wednesday, July 15.

This was confirmed by the brand itself, which published a teaser announcing the date. “The world is preparing to take a leap forward. The Ariya Concept answered that call by rethinking the crossover segment from the beginning, including impressive design features, comfort and interior space with a performance similar to that of a sports car, ”the Japanese firm anticipated in a brief statement.

According to the prototype, the Ariya will have the current hallmark of the brand, known as V-Motion, much more stylized. The grille’s V feature will gain in size and extend to the headlights. In profile it also shows cleaner surfaces, with lines that stretch towards the ends. Its silhouette is of the fastback type, following a style with a certain air to the Tesla Model X and that aims to give it a more dynamic and sporty image. As with any SUV or crossover, there is no shortage of black wheel arches and generously sized wheels.

Behind the doors, the cabin looks very minimalist and technological, with 100% digital instruments that are attached to the screen of the multimedia system. The buttons and knobs were replaced by touch commands and in addition to being able to operate it manually like any vehicle, Nissan added the ProPilot 2.0 system, for autonomous driving.

Mechanically, its propulsion system is made up of two electric motors, one located on each axle. Although its power was not disclosed, the brand promises “exciting performance and various driving modes for various types of terrain and climates.” In that sense, a month ago, Nissan released a video demonstrating the benefits of the e-4ORCE traction system that the Ariya will use, although in that case, the test unit was a Leaf e + (the version with extended autonomy of the medium hatchback ). This vehicle has exactly two engines, located on the front and rear axles respectively, which generate 227 kW (304 hp) of power and a remarkable torque of 680 Nm.

In addition, it has a new electronic management system that makes it possible to take better advantage of the performance of the powertrain and provides it with better accelerations: the electronic control unit distributes the torque independently to each one of the wheels, thus improving cornering grip. With this, greater stability and balance are gained in the torque distribution of the electric motors, which can be 50/50 in normal conditions or vary according to road conditions and type of driving, sending up to 100% of power and torque to the front or rear wheels.

In addition, it also adds the regenerative braking system in the rear axle, which not only allows the kinetic energy of braking to be further exploited, but also reduces the most sudden reactions when decelerating, increasing comfort for passengers.

The new modular platform CMF-EV will debut with the Ariya, the electrified variant of the CMF already used by various products from Renault and Nissan. Its arrival at Asian and European dealerships would take place towards the end of this year or at the beginning of 2021. At the moment, its arrival in our region is not confirmed.
