Nissan: 514 pick-up of Navara and Pathfinder models would present failures in the Peru front airbag

Nissan Peru informed the Indecopi, as the National Consumer Protection Authority in the country, on the call for review of 514 pick-up trucks, corresponding to the Navara and Pathfinder models, because they would present a possible failure in the driver’s front airbag.

According to the information provided by Nissan Peru, these are 470 units corresponding to the Navara model, manufactured between 2011 and 2014; and 44 to the Pathfinder model, manufactured between 2001 and 2005.

In these vehicles, propellant tablets in one of the inflators could experience an alteration with the passage of time, which could lead to more aggressive combustion, in case of deployment of the airbag.

The PSAN propellant involved in this call, for inflators of unwanted frontal airbags, could degrade over time, after long-term exposure to ambient humidity and high fluctuating temperatures.

This scenario could create excessive internal pressure at the time of the deployment of the air bag, which could result (in extreme cases) in a break in the inflator body after the deployment and dispersion of the metal fragments, which could cause physical damage to the occupants of the vehicle.

Among the security measures adopted by the company, are the issuance of a circular for the network of dealers with the procedure to follow; contact with customers-owners of these vehicles, as well as the publication in a national newspaper of the call for review. Nissan Peru informed that it has the necessary provisioning of parts to be able to attend the change of the same.
