When Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed together at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2004, there was an awkward wardrobe glitch. The singer’s breasts were exposed for a brief moment and it seemed as if Timberlake was responsible. But Jackson doesn’t blame him for what became known as the “Nipplegate” incident.
“Of course it was an accident that shouldn’t have happened. But everyone is looking for a scapegoat and this has to stop,” says Jackson, adding: “To be honest, the whole thing was completely overblown.
At the time, when the two entertainers performed together at the Super Bowl, it looked as if Timberlake had deliberately torn off part of her top. At the same time he sang the lyrics: “By the end of this song I will have stripped you naked”. The incident then went down in US history under the name “Nipplegate” and later ended up in court.

While Jackson’s career was negatively impacted by subsequent media coverage, there is no bad blood between the two pop artists. On the contrary, as the singer says: “Justin and I are very good friends and will always be very good friends. We only spoke to each other a few days ago. We put it behind us and so should everyone else.”
