The director of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), Camilla Stoltenberg, asks municipalities that have too many vaccine doses not to order more vaccine doses. 13 municipalities have already declined several doses.

– 12 of these are municipalities in Viken, and were prioritized in the geographical targeting of vaccines, says Stoltenberg. It ends this week. A total of 24 municipalities were given priority.

As the municipalities finish setting dose 1, they must cancel all new doses in the coming weeks.

– Shortening the dose interval is only relevant if a municipality has already received doses and is not allowed to use them as the first dose, nor can it offer them to people in neighboring municipalities, says Stoltenberg.

– Thus, several thousand doses can be released over the next few weeks, and reallocated to municipalities that have not been prioritized until now.

FHI is working to get an overview of how many doses are involved.

– What is important now is that everyone in the whole country should be offered the first dose.

Say yes to the class

Several municipalities experience that people do not show up for vaccination classes. They also refrain from booking classes. This applies to the municipalities of Indre Østfold, Ås, Follo, Arendal and Skien, among others.

Do these municipalities also have to cancel the vaccines?

– Yes, they have to. We do not know if any of the people who have not been offered the first dose will still want to be vaccinated later, but it is likely. These will receive an offer, but we can not yet say when it will be relevant, says Stoltenberg.

So those who are on vacation and postponed the hour, they have to wait?

– They have to wait if they have not agreed to the hour they have been offered now yes.

Stoltenberg says that they have always said that it is important to say yes to vaccine time, and that it is important to plan so that you can be offered a vaccine during the holidays.
