Kozhikode – Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority and District Collector A. Geetha said that according to the recommendations of the expert committee, Nippa alert has not been fully withdrawn in Kozhikode district. In this situation, the Collector ordered that all non-essential public events should be postponed till October 1. Social distancing and use of masks and sanitizers are mandatory.
At the same time, Health Minister Veena George said that the expert committee will meet on Tuesday, September 26 and submit recommendations regarding the restrictions as part of Nipah prevention in Kozhikode. Those who are in isolation should remain in isolation for 21 days as per the instructions of the health department. The minister directed that there should be continuous communication with those who are in isolation. The health department had convened a meeting of all medical officers in the district.
Another Nipah test result was negative. No new positive cases on Monday. The health status of all those currently undergoing treatment remains satisfactory. A total of 378 samples were tested.
Meanwhile, Nipah virus was not present in the samples collected from various animals in Kuttyadi Kullate area and Vadakara Ayanchery where Nipah disease outbreak was first confirmed. The samples sent to Bhopal National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases on 21st were negative. 42 samples collected from various animals including cows were sent for testing.
