Mired in a nightmare season, the Chamois could see their fate sealed definitively this Saturday. For Niort’s relegation to be official this weekend, it would take a combination of circumstances: Metz must come and win against René-Gaillard, Annecy must win in Dijon, as well as Valenciennes in Nîmes. In the event of a draw or victory, Niort would retain a tiny hope of a miracle for the last four days, even if everything suggests that the National is waiting for Bernard Simondi’s men.
If the sporting situation has been very difficult for several months – the club has had 5 different coaches in total this season -, the internal turmoil does not help. What Simondi confirmed in a half-word at a press conference before receiving the Garnets: « We cannot be satisfied with the situation and this climate which is related to the results that we obtain. We are in a contrasting atmosphere. At the same time, there is the pleasure of meeting teams from the top of the table, with a match which remains important and which remains a glimmer of what is high-level football, and there is what we have been accomplishing for several weeks and which leaves us at the bottom, in a complicated situation. »
