Three sheep were slaughtered and butchered this weekend during a rally in Niort, for the Muslim holiday of Eid el-Kébir, we learned from local media. The police intervened.
A wild slaughter, in the middle of the street. The police had to intervene on Saturday in a district of Niort (Deux-Sèvres), when three sheep had just been slaughtered and butchered during a gathering of people celebrating the Muslim holiday of Eid el -Kebir.
A dozen individuals had thus found themselves in the street, shortly before noon, for this celebration, which must take place until July 12. The problem being that this meeting therefore led to the ritual slaughter of the three sheep, reports The New Republic.
However, French law stipulates that this type of process must be carried out in a slaughterhouse that has received approval for this (article L237-2 of the rural and maritime fishing code). Failure to comply with this law constitutes an offense punishable by six months in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.
Two suspects summoned to the police station
The police therefore arrived on the spot to stop the ceremony, while a fourth sheep was about to suffer the same fate as its congeners.
Two men, who carried knives, were summoned to the police station, suspected of being those who killed the animals. The city services then intervened to clean the place.
