The Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO will soon offer a new battery with a capacity of 150kWh (140kWh available to the user), taking a step closer to solid-state batteries. This is one of the most capacious batteries in passenger cars so far, and the Chinese wanted to prove what the car is capable of – it managed to cover 1044 kilometers with a full battery.
During the test, the NIO ET7 electric car with this large battery was used, and the CEO of the company, William Lee, sat at the wheel of the car, and he covered the above-mentioned distance in 14 hours, including breaks.
The ride took place in relatively low temperatures of -2 to +12 degrees Celsius and was broadcast online. The trip was mostly conducted using NIO’s Navigate-on-Pilot+ driving assistance system, but the speed was limited to 90km/h. The average speed of the trip was 83.9 km/h and the net time on the road is 12 and a half hours.
The head of NIO is, of course, very satisfied with the work done and boasted about it on the Chinese communication platform Weibo. NIO states that this particular battery will not be sold together with the car, but it is part of the NIO model, as the manufacturer continues to develop battery exchange points – the car drives in, takes out the empty battery, puts in a charged battery and drives away. Previously, company representatives have said that this particular battery will cost similar to the cheapest NIO models, around 40 thousand dollars.
